When I started this site, I thought that it would be populated most quickly and most prevalently with my rants. As I started working on it, however, I found, to both surprise and delight, that miscellaneous ramblings have come most easily so far. This page is yet another in that category and contains some of my favorite quotations along with some of my own thoughts (in italics) about certain quotations. I hope you enjoy and appreciate this page as much as I do and I hope as well that you, dear reader, will find at least one of these quotations meaningful.
Are you really sure that you really want what you see? Be careful of something that's just what you want it to be.
                Waylon Jennings

To every silver lining, there is a cloud.
                Zenmervolt

There are none so blind as those who will not see.
                The Moody Blues

Some people are very hard for me to say "no" to because I want to see them happy so much that I don't let myself see that "yes" is the wrong thing to say.

The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.
                Henry David Thoreau

I must confess that right now I'm one of that mass.

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.
                Emerson

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.
                RUSH

I will choose the path that's clear, I will choose free will.
                RUSH

Nothing I have never said has ever done me any harm.
                Calvin Cooledge

I used to think this was the epitome of wisdom. I mean, how can something one has never said come back to haunt him. Now I'm starting to really regret a lot of things I have never said, I feel that I missed out on a lot by not taking any emotional risks.

There's man all over for you, blaming on his boots the faults of his feet.
                Samuel Becket

Behold the turtle, he makes progress only when he sticks his neck out.
                Chinese Proverb

See the Calvin Cooledge quotation above.

Learning without knowledge is foolishness, knowledge without learning is dangerous.
                Confucius

It's easier to try than to prove it can't be done.
                The Moody Blues

There has never been a genius without a tincture of madness.
                Seneca

Is there really a difference between genius and insanity?

The great spirits of every age have always encountered the greatest resistance from the mediocre minds.
                Albert Einstein

Maybe the mediocre minds think the great spirits are insane.

I don't know where I'm running to, I'm just running on.
                Jackson Browne

People go just where the will, I never noticed them until I got this feeling that it's later than it seems.
                Jackson Browne

I get that feeling all too often now.

I want to run, I want to hide, I want to tear down the walls that hold me inside.
                U2

That pretty much sums up my life right now.

We have met the enemy, and he is us.
                Don Henley

Not only a well turned phrase, but truer even than the original. Everyone is his own worst enemy.

I have climbed highest mountain, I have run through the fields, only to be with you, only to be with you. And I still haven't found what I'm looking for.
                U2

I believe in the Kingdom Come, that all the colours will bleed into one, bleed into one. But I still haven't found what I'm looking for.
                U2

I may not have found it yet, but I'm going to keep searching.

You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.
                The Eagles

If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with.
                Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Ah...No.

If I can't have the one I want I'll do without the best.
                Bread

Much more accurate to my line of thinking than the CSN&Y quotation. Hey, as far as I'm concerned stubbornness is a virtue.

This too shall pass.
                Chinese Proverb

To be fully alive, one must first die.
                ?

I think it was a Zen proverb but I'm not sure

Just what the truth is, I don't know any more.
                The Moody Blues

I don't know either.

There are times, when all the world's asleep, the questions run too deep, for such a simple man.
                Supertramp

Yes, there are many such times in my life.

You think you life's a catastrophe, oh it has to be, for you to grow boy.
                Supertramp

Would that it didn't.

So you're the joke of the neighborhood, why should you care if you're feeling good.
                Supertramp

Exactly

Watch what you say, or they'll be calling you a radical, a liberal, oh fanatical, criminal.
                Supertramp

Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're acceptable, respectable, oh presentable, a vegetable.
                Supertramp

Both of the above fit college life perfectly.

When I was younger I thought I could stand on my own. It wasn't easy I stood like a man made of stone.
                Boston

It is very hard to stand on one's own. I should know, I'm still trying.

Every man who strives to be an island will eventually be reached by someone who strives to be an ocean.
                Zenmervolt

My most recent and favorite quotation. I thought of it on Sept. 10 this year [2000] while driving back to Pittsburgh from my home in Ohio. I used to be essentially an island, and even after I became more social it still takes me a good year to become good friends with people. There is but one exception to this, and that exception is the ocean of which I speak. I will say that there are times when I almost wish there weren't an ocean because when you care about someone it can cause a great deal of pain. Perhaps not so coincidentally this is the same person mentioned after the second quotation on this page.

An island may be touched by more than one ocean.
               Zenmervolt

08/28/2002, my current "newest" quotation. Kind of my own take on the old "plenty of fish in the sea" but I like mine better for some reason. Probably just because I thought of it. Still, I can't help but feel that its implication is slightly different.
